One device, two faults — Peltier module replacement and Nd:YAG laser repair

Two independent faults in one device: Peltier module replacement, Nd:YAG handpiece repair and calibration. Work carried out by Laser Tech Service.

Equipment: a multifunction aesthetic laser with two handpieces.

Work performed: cooling system diagnostics, Peltier module replacement, Nd:YAG laser component replacement and laser calibration.

Two faults in one device

Laser Tech Service specialists carried out a comprehensive repair of a multifunction aesthetic device combining two technologies: laser hair removal and Nd:YAG for tattoo and pigmentation removal.

Diagnostics identified two independent faults requiring repairs to both handpieces.

First fault — Peltier module overheating

The thermoelectric Peltier module responsible for cooling the contact surface had failed in the laser hair removal handpiece.

During diagnostics, the specialists established the cause of overheating: the client had been connecting only one handpiece, although this model’s design required both to be connected simultaneously.

The incorrect connection configuration disrupted cooling system operation and created conditions in which the thermoelectric module could overheat.

Work performed:

  • Dismantling the laser hair removal handpiece.
  • Cooling system diagnostics.
  • Removal of the faulty Peltier module.
  • Installation of a new thermoelectric module.
  • Handpiece reassembly and cooling checks.
  • Verification that both handpieces were connected correctly.

Second fault — a damaged Nd:YAG laser component

The second problem was found in the Nd:YAG handpiece.

Diagnostics showed that a laser component involved in generating laser radiation needed replacement.

Laser Tech Service specialists dismantled the handpiece, removed the faulty component and installed a new laser component.

The Nd:YAG laser was calibrated after replacement.

Calibration is necessary for correct laser system operation following work on its optical section and allows operating parameters to be checked against the device’s requirements.

Work performed:

  • Dismantling the Nd:YAG handpiece.
  • Removal of the faulty laser component.
  • Installation of a new component.
  • Laser handpiece reassembly.
  • Nd:YAG laser calibration.
  • Operational checks after repair.

Repair result

During a single service visit, Laser Tech Service specialists resolved two faults in different handpieces of the same device.

The Peltier module was replaced in the hair removal handpiece; a laser component was replaced in the Nd:YAG handpiece, followed by calibration.

An operating error was also identified: connecting only one handpiece instead of two.

Technical conclusion

In multifunction aesthetic equipment, correct handpiece connections can directly affect cooling system operation.

Replacing a faulty part without addressing the cause of its failure creates a risk of recurrence.
