A small seal with major consequences: after the owner replaced a seal, coolant entered the diode module. The repair in Poznań required replacement of one of the device’s most expensive components.

Problem: a module damaged by coolant ingress

A laser with a damaged diode module required repair in Poznań. The failure followed the owner’s replacement of a seal between parts of the handpiece assembly. The diode itself was not the initial cause.

Diagnosis: liquid inside the assembly

Opening the handpiece revealed traces of liquid, contamination and dark deposits on the module components and inside its housing. The photographs document the damaged component after liquid ingress. They do not show a new module or measurements of its performance.

Damage documentation

Cause: an incorrectly fitted seal

The seal had been seated incorrectly, compromising the assembly’s watertightness. Water or coolant entered the assembly and flooded the diode module. A small, relatively inexpensive part caused damage to one of the laser’s most expensive components.

Repair: a new module and a correctly fitted seal

We removed the damaged diode module and installed a new one. We also replaced the seal and seated it correctly in the assembly to restore watertightness. Laser repair requires both the damage and its underlying cause to be addressed.

Result and the importance of checks after reassembly

The damaged module was replaced with a new one, and the incorrectly fitted seal was replaced and installed correctly. Checks after this type of repair should cover device operation, assembly watertightness, coolant circulation and the absence of leaks. We do not report measurement results that are absent from the documentation for this case.

A small part, a disproportionately large cost

In this particular case, the damage followed the owner’s intervention and the repair was not covered by warranty. The owner had to pay for a new diode module, substantially increasing the total servicing cost.
