What is the GME ExSys 308?

GME ExSys 308 is a targeted phototherapy system manufactured by German Medical Engineering GmbH in Germany. Instead of a diode laser beam, it uses a XeCl excimer lamp inside the applicator. The source emits UVB light at 308 nm — hence the number in its name.

The GME ExSys 308 FDA submission describes a touchscreen base controlling the applicator, and air cooling. UVB acts on skin immune processes and melanocyte activity. Listed uses include psoriasis and vitiligo on intact skin. This describes the model's intended use, not a treatment recommendation for an individual.

EPL: excimer light directed at a selected area

EPL stands for Excimer Pulsed Light. In the GME manufacturer brochure the system is described as a source of monochromatic UVB light. The applicator and interchangeable tips limit the exposure field; the brochure gives a maximum area of 50 × 35 mm. It is designed for targeted phototherapy, not broadband IPL or laser hair removal.

The same brochure also lists alopecia areata, atopic dermatitis, mycosis fungoides and lichen planus, with a note that these uses are not approved in the USA. The intended uses of a specific version should be checked in its documentation for the relevant market.

Identifying the unit before technical assessment

This device's rating plate identifies it as ExSys 308, names the manufacturer as GME German Medical Engineering GmbH, carries the marking Made in Germany and gives the manufacture date as 16.12.2015. This links the documentation to the specific unit. The manufacture date is not the date of our service.

For older equipment, identifying the model has practical importance: a housing's appearance or a similar screen does not establish the light source or operating method. This account therefore relies on device markings and ExSys 308 documentation.

Device diagnostics and inspection

The documented work covered an operational service check of the device and a handpiece test. The panel photograph shows “EPL IS ACTIVE”, while a separate image shows the applicator window during testing. The materials show the running system and its working part.

Diagnostics must distinguish screen information from actual applicator operation. Interface values are device settings; a photograph alone is not a measurement of emitted dose. Visible illumination likewise does not establish wavelength or UVB parameters. Such assessments require appropriate procedures and measurements.

With specialist equipment, servicing starts by correctly identifying the technology. This supports selection of documentation and inspection scope, and precise reporting of what was actually checked.

Result: device and handpiece operation during testing

We checked GME ExSys 308 operation during this job. The photographs show the active screen and working handpiece; the video documents the post-service test. This records a specific stage of work on the device.

Test footage does not replace a measurement report. This account gives neither measured energy values nor an assessment of therapeutic effectiveness: it presents the documented operational check.

Specialist equipment diagnostics

Each technology requires identification of the device design and intended use. Our support scope is described on the laser and aesthetic equipment servicing page. We also discuss regular maintenance in the article why professional servicing matters.

To discuss checking a specific device, contact Laser Tech Service and provide its model and a description of its operation.
