CO₂ device · Poznań

A CO₂ laser was not responding correctly to its foot pedal, preventing normal use at an aesthetic medicine studio in Poznań. During an urgent visit, we established that the pedal worked. The cause was in the handpiece wiring.

## Urgent request from an aesthetic medicine studio

We received an urgent request from an **aesthetic medicine studio in Poznań**. Pressing the foot pedal while using the CO₂ device did not produce the correct response. The fault prevented normal use, so we made an urgent service visit.

Diagnostics and repair were carried out at the clinic. The starting point was a specific symptom: no correct response to the activation command. We needed to establish whether the problem lay in the pedal or further along the control circuit.

## First suspect: the foot pedal

The pedal was the most obvious suspect. Before deciding to replace a part, we checked it fully. The diagnostic result was clear: **the pedal was fully functional**.

This finding redirected the work. Replacing a functioning pedal would not resolve the fault. We needed to trace the signal path and check the handpiece connections and wiring.

## Handpiece and wiring diagnostics

We accessed the wiring and checked the connections and individual wires in sequence. Multimeter measurements narrowed the search and identified where the control signal stopped being transmitted.

Locating the fault accounted for a substantial part of the work. The wire's external appearance did not clearly identify the damaged point. Only a detailed circuit inspection explained why the device behaved as though the pedal was faulty.

## Cause: an internal break in a small red wire

Inside the handpiece wiring, we found a **small red wire with an internal break**. The damage was not obvious externally, but it prevented correct transmission of the pedal command.

This wire, not the pedal, caused the reported problem. A small circuit component had disabled a function needed for normal device use.

## Internal access and work at the connector

## Repair: complete replacement of the damaged wire

The damaged wire was **replaced in full**. We restored the electrical connection, routed the wiring correctly and reassembled the handpiece and parts removed for diagnostics.

We then checked the system and its response to controls again. After repair, the CO₂ device responded correctly to the pedal. The functioning pedal remained in the device.

## Maintenance during the same visit

The visit also included an inspection and necessary device servicing. Repair of the specific fault was therefore combined with maintenance during the same visit.

## Result: the device ready for work again

After locating the break, replacing the wire, reassembly, retesting and maintenance, the device was fully ready for continued use at the studio. We restored correct pedal response by addressing the actual cause.

## What does this case show about diagnostics?

The visible symptom did not directly identify the faulty component. In our article [CO₂ laser not responding to the pedal — why a symptom is not yet a diagnosis](https://lasertechservice.pl/en/blog/co2-laser-not-responding-to-foot-pedal/) we explain the importance of successive measurements and why finding one faulty wire can be a more substantial part of the job than replacing it.
